Oswego County

Progressive Agriculture Safety Day

On June 1, 2011 more than 500 Oswego County students participated in the 8th Annual Oswego County Progressive Agriculture Safety Day at the Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek. This event is designed for fifth graders and includes the following topics: 911 Emergency Phone Calls, ATV Safety, Electrical Safety, Fire Safety, First Aid, Lawnmower Safety, and Mechanical Safety. The goal of the event is to prevent farm and home injuries and deaths by educating children about safety related hazards and how to avoid them. Each camp participant received a t-shirt and an activity book.

Each class went to 5 different stations during the course of the program. There was one group presentation for all participants and it covered race car safety and PTO (power take-off) safety.

The program was coordinated by the District, Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, Oswego County Farm Bureau, and State Farm Insurance.  The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets and Constellation Energy Nuclear Group were the primary sponsors. Several other local sponsors goods, and services.
